On September 30^th Eden Photography will be taking a two year sabbatical to refocus and better our business, as well as spend much needed time with our precious children who are growing too quickly.

To our clients: Thank you for your support over the years. Since 2004 we have grown a photography business that has captured many lives and have had the privilege to create keepsake artwork for hundreds of families. We have created and sustained friendships, and are so thankful for every single one of you!

Wow! So as I start this post it is 5 mintues before midnight. I am not a procrastinator at ALL but today has flown by and I ALMOST forgot to announce our winner for the CONTEST for the FREE PHOTO SESSION!!!

I said "almost", so here it goes...

I was not planning on picking more than one winner but there were TWO stories that really resonated with me and touched my heart so this once, I must pick two. We had so many touching stories sent to us and I wish I could pick them all!

Spring MODELS NEEDED

Spring is in the air...(or at least it was last week) and I am getting inspired to try some of my fresh ideas out for new photographic art. Here is the part where you come in...I need MODELS. Now don't be discouraged, your child does not have to act like a model, just be our model. We are looking for children with personality and oozing with cuteness.

Studio Update

The studio is coming along beautifully! It is the main reason I have been MIA from this blog! All of my time is consumed with decorating, shopping, cleaning, painting (which really means running to Starbucks for my painters because I HATE to paint) and letting my mind run wild with ideas. I cannot wait to post the final images of the studio. I am wishing now I had taken BEFORE photos because it looks sooo different.

Our projected opening date is April 10th!!

Grandfather Home

As the new year came and went, Dru and I were thinking hard on ways we could give back to the community through out this coming year. We don't want to be a business that sets out to create more money so our business can profit more, but yet our goal is to every year grow stronger as a business so we can help our community and give back. It feels SO GOOD to give back! So anyways, this past year we have spent time as a family investing our love, support and energy into two very special children ages 14 years and 16 months as their foster parents. This past week they went home and there is a huge hole in our family. Because I have two very dear friends that work for DSS we could not be foster parents with them and we were referred to an agency called Grandfather Home. What a blessing! This agency is amazing and so supportive. To make a long story short on how they run...they are a non-profit agency that survives on donations only. While we had our foster children we were able to take part in the Grandfather Club one time which enabled us to take the children on a special vacation-a once in a lifetime experience for these two children. The Grandfather Club also gives families money for children who may need special shoes to walk, or even a special pair of glasses, and the list of their generosity goes on.

So, as you can guess, this has been one of our choices for giving back this year! A portion of every sale will go to Grandfather Home to help enable this agency to further aid the experience of children in foster care, as well as the Grandfathers Club that gives these deserving children a little "extra" something.

Studio Space

Very exciting news...

Starting March 1st we will be working on our new studio space by the Grove Park Inn!! We are so very excited to have a studio. For the past year our studio has been...well...clients homes, parks and such. We will still do most of our work On-Location. Now we will be able to photograph birth through six months in the studio if desired and we will have a place for our planning and order sessions! I will post photos while we are working on the space and also final images.

On the other side of Eden Photography is The Rainbow Well. This is a SUPER cool business for children's art therapy and parenting help. Check out their website!!

The Spa

Yesterday I had the most relaxing day of my ENTIRE life. I took my mom to the Grove Park Inn Spa!!! Ladies, this is a must do!! I have never been someplace to beautiful and relaxing. It made me remember how important the little things are in life. The Spa made sure every little detail was taken care of. Everything from hair ties to wine. They had yummy trail mix and tea...when you are there, you are in need of nothing. It was a great time to reconnect with myself as well as my mom, the most influential women in my life. She is full of wisdom and I had the opportunity to bask in it yesterday. We also had some good laughs! I just hope that one day I can be as good of a friend to my daughter as my mother is to me.

New Dawn.

I went into New Dawn Midwifery the other day (the best midwives in town if you ask me...I chose them when I was pregnant) to check on some of my work I have hanging there and to see if they needed anything. While I was in there I was informed my work had been on the news a little while back. What?!? So funny how that happened and I was not even aware. They did not feature my name but did up close shots of my work. Kinda fun! Check out this link HERE to see the news clip. Electronics...who needs them? Oh, I do!!

So, in attempt to be more connected with the world and more "together" I have purchased a BlackBerry. I must say, I haaate learning new things when they pertain to electronics. So I sit here frustrated now as I try to figure out this little device that is smarter than I am... maybe one day I will be queen of my BlackBerry and find it useful!

On another note, we here at Eden Photography are always trying to better your EXPERIENCE with us so we invested in some expensive electronics to help with our order session. I cannot really describe them to you YET, but one day when I figure them out my husband and photography mentor have assured me they will be WONDERFUL! We'll see. But between you and me, I think it would be great if one day I woke up and *BAMM* was an electronic genius!

This is a great little place to go grab a cup of coffee, (or your drink of choice) let your little one play and kick your feet up. They even have free wireless internet! Today is THE day!!

"The day for what?!?" you might ask.

The day I start to journal again. I have been putting it off and putting it off and today I decided I just need to jump back into cyber world. I was going to make my New Years resolution to JOURNAL OFTEN but, like some people put off working out, I just decided I would do it later. So, today my online journal and I are rekindling our relationship and getting to know each other once more.

So now I ask, is anyone out there?? Does anyone even read this anymore??

Stay tuned because this coming week A.Bryan Photography will be doing some work on my blog to make it more reader friendly and then we will have an AWESOME contest! "Awesome" might be an understatement (if that is possible)...this is going to be good so stay tuned.

I thought I would leave you with a photograph I took of my daughter, Quinn during our Christmas card photography session. She is saying, "Are we done taking pictures mommy??". This was only 5 minutes after we started. "Bless her heart" as they say here in the south. :)

A few things I have learned...

LIFE.... a few things I have learned
Don't be so busy that you start to realize you have missed out on EVERYTHING!

Take time to play with your kids more. Silly play. Run around with them. They love it.

Sit and cuddle your kids as much as you can.

Make sure everyone knows how much you love them. Sometimes you never have the chance to tell them again.

Don't sweat the small stuff. Some things just don't matter. They mean something, but they really don't matter.

Hold yourself accountable.
Remember that everyone has a bad day once and a while. Just like you.

Don't get offended. Assume that whomever said it, just didn't get it out right.

Give others a break. We are all fighting our own battles.

Remember that people aren't always going to remember what you said, But they will always remember how you made them feel. Make them feel special.

There are too many people out there who need someone really bad. Be that someone.

Sometimes all someone needs is a shoulder to cry on. Give it to them and really listen.

Don't keep your distance. We are all supposed to be taking care of eachother. Life isn't about us, it's about everyone else.

Sometimes the simplest things to you, mean the world to someone else. Give it to them.

Live by example.

Have Faith.

Remember . . . Life is Good.

The many forms of RAIN

The inside of an old clock is above and old Mason jars are below. If you have ever been to my studio you will see on my shelves how much I love Mason jars. They are a beautiful blue and are great for housing marbles, antique photographs and just about anything you want to display. Marbles, another favorite little thing of mine.

Sometimes it is the simple things in life that make me stop and notice the not so simple things. Here are some random things I took pictures of on our last family trip to Boone, NC.

I took this picture at my last photo session on accident while walking with my finger on the shutter button and thought it was very interesting. At first I could not figure out what I had taken a picture of but once I did it made me smile.

Holiday Sessions

We have been booking holiday sessions all summer and the calendar is quite full. Each year our fall sessions sell out earlier and earlier, so if you are considering a session please book early to avoid disappointment. Here's all the info regarding fall sessions:

Standard and signature sessions are available through the end of October.

*Only signature sessions are booked for November and December. These sessions are our premium offering and include a beautiful session album of all your images. No standard sessions are available during these two months.

As always, we have beautiful custom holiday cards available, including our new samples above. Cards are available for purchase with an accompanying portrait order and take 2-3 weeks for design and printing. We also have a number of exciting new products this year including presentation boxes, gift books, and wall gallery collections!

If you do not require a full session, but wish to have stunning holiday cards and/or need gift prints, consider a mini session. Mini sessions are just $175, last 15-20 minutes long, and include an online galley with 10-12 images available. Mini sessions are offered once a month until the end of October. Loren Slocum

This past week I had a great time photographing this beautiful woman, Loren Slocum. She is a mother, author and speaker among other things and she was so much fun to be with. We did her session at the botanical gardens here in Asheville (she was visiting from her home-Las Vegas) which her father helped found! We found we had several things in comon...some things I have never had in common with anyone else I have ever met!

**Her daughters name is Asher (I have never met another girl named "Asher").

**Her daughter and I have the same birthday, June 29th...and her sons name is Quinn (my daughters name is Quinn).

How weird is that?!?

These pictures are for a new book she has coming out. She gave me one of her books titled, 'No Greater Love: Being an Extrordinary Mom'. It is a beautiful coffee book table with amazing childrens photography by Brittany Lee Hanson. I hear it is even in Target stores...go check it out!

Jazz and Maggie

So...I "don't" do weddings, but for our friends Maggie and Jazz I made an exception. Maggie and Jazz got married this past weekend and it was beautiful! Not just because decorations were beautiful and Maggie was one of the most beautiful brides I have ever seen, but because the ceremony and reception were FULL of love! Friends and family gathering to celebrate this union before God, and two people who really love each other and God. Watching them make their commitment made me think of a quote by C.S. Lewis, "A promise must be about things I can do... no one can promise to go on feeling a certain way." That is the kind of promise they made to one another. Enough about that... now on to the pictures of the beautiful couple!

I just could not help shooting these cute little feet on the flower girls and ring barer!

Been a while...

Hello! My maternity leave is almost over...my sister with A.Bryan Photography has given me a hard time about my terrible blogging skills while I have been on leave. :) It's true! Life has been crazy busy with two but very enjoyable. It makes me want more. Yes, I said it- more.

I have to send out a very special thank you to Shari, Hannah, Kassie and Tara who have kept this business afloat while I have been gone. Thank YOU, you have done a wonderful job!

Our New Baby...

It is hard to believe it has been over two weeks from the birth of our son, Asa Crewe Collie!! I cannot believe it has gone by so fast. (Of course the lack of sleep makes it seem slow at times.) I thought I would post images on my blog right away...but life has its way of making certain things take longer sometimes. :)

Asa made his debut on March 22ND at 9 lbs. 14 oz. He is one big, happy baby. His first photo session was at 4 days old. I had a battle of the wills going on inside of me during what I thought was going to be the most fun session because I could do whatever I wanted and get all of my new, creative ideas out of my head. Well, quite the opposite. While I had many great ideas, I was tired (very tired) and still not feeling so energetic after only 4 days earlier giving birth. :) My dad and sister (both photographers specializing in weddings) were there shooting with their cameras. It was good newborn "practice" for them and they did an amazing job!

Twins...

I am finally getting around to posting one image from Eden and Drew's session. This little duo was so good! I had such a great time. This photo session took place in the family's home with only natural light (for those of you who are wondering where the studio is) There were too many good images to choose from to post on here so I told (my)Dru to pick one...this is one of his favorites.
John and Shay, I can't wait to show you the rest!! I really think your hearts will melt-as if your kiddos haven't made them melt already!

PS- To all who are wondering where my other shoots are...I have quit posting EVERY shoot on my blog because we have increased our turn around time and quite frankly...that just makes everything take longer. Poor John and Shay have had to wait longer than usual because of this this called pregnancy I am at the end of. :) Thank you for your patience...

Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep

Giving back, this is one of my favorite things to do with my photography. I am so blessed to be part of a non for profit organization called Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep (NILMDTS). It is an organization founded by photographers who were directly impacted by the death of a newborn child-some because it was their own, and some because it was a client of theirs. NILMDTS offers free photographic services to families who have a newborn or a young child who will not live. On the Today Show this morning was a small feature about one of the families NILMDTS has touched. I would HIGHLY encourage you to take a look at the clip HERE and if you know of someone who could benefit from these services, please give us a call-or check out their website. I just sat through the couple minutes of this clip just sobbing! I don't want to bring anyone day down-but this is happening everyday in a hospital near you and the families that are touched by this cannot ignore reality. If you know of someone who might be going through this, please check out the organization and tell them about it!!

I got a package in the mail today from who other than CORAL CAMEILLA! I was SOOO excited and as I opened the package, everything that was in there that my eyes landed on brought about an, "Oh my! Oh my goodness!!! HOW CUTE!!!! OH MY GOODNESS!!!! LOOK AT THIS!!!!!" I was by myself but so excited I completely forgot! :) I would HIGHLY recommend getting something off of her site for your little girl. Oh yes, I forgot to mention that part. Everything I was opening was for our daughter, Quinn. Sarah even threw in a blanket and socks that are OH SO CUTE for our little boy that is on his way! The clothes are made really well and I thought I was in love with them on the site-they are even better in person. And better yet, my daughter did NOT want to take them off (normally she is happy to wear as little as she can get away with!) Even though they are summer clothes I had her try everything on and she too loved it all! I can't wait for warmer weather because I am feeling a photo shoot being called into order! Some of the things I LOVE about these clothes are number one, the fabric is so soft and the patterns are so unique...not your average find!
Also, the way the clothes are cut makes the so comfortable!
I took a couple pictures I will share with you on here. I just took these in the play room on a very cloudy day with TERRIBLE light and tons of toys in the background so please excuse the funky pictures. She gave me a total of 2 minutes at most to get a picture in each outfit.

On February 16th we had the opportunity to hang some of our images in Lola Salon in downtown Asheville! Here are some snapshots my dad took after the images were hung. (Thanks!)

New Site Coming!!

I know I have been MIA for a while. I thought this was supposed to be the slowest time of the year (in the world of photography) but I have been SOO busy! Guess what!! Oh wait, the title gave it away-we have not just one new website on its way, but TWO! Thanks to Dru captureeden.com will have a new and fresh approach hopefully by the end of this week. Then, by the end of this month we should be graced with a completely new website for a completely new branch of EDEN PHOTOGRAPHY! This will be STUDIO E and the new website will be studioeden.net. I'm sure I will not be able to contain my excitement and I will post again when everything is up and running. Hip Children's Belts

Okay, okay, so this is not directly about photography but we think you will want to check out this site!

Foster Weld is a hip site that will inspire that funky side in you. They have everything from awesome furniture to metal art to KIDS BELTS! I think you will only see displayed on Chris Foster's site his belts for adults but, but the children's look just like them except mini and oh-so-cute!!

I am all about adding unique accessories to children for their photo shoots (and every day life of course). Chris made two of these belts for my daughter (who is two) with three interchangeable buckles and she LOVES them. Not to mention, my son can wear them when he is older and my husband is addicted to these belts and buckles-he wears one every day!

Been A While...

I know it has been a while since I posted last-and boy has a LOT happened! I will try and fill everyone in without making this too long because don't you know, there is a lot more on my to-do list today. :)
I was very sad to say goodbye to my intern, Hannah the first week of August! She helped me so much this summer, and hopefully learned a lot too. She was just amazing! She is now back in school at ASU and will be graduating in December. (We are hoping she moves to Asheville.) :)
After Hannah left I had to readjust to doing things without her so I was a little thrown off for a week or so. Many photo shoots and consultations have kept me busy-so busy in fact I have not had a chance to post any of them on here. Thank you to all of my wonderful clients who have chosen Eden Photography! You have become a part of the Eden family forever!

Hannah Dunnigan is interning this summer with Eden Photography and Asher will be training her in Senior photography. We are working on building Hannah's portfolio. She is an awesome photographer and one of her may strengths is fashion photography. This is a pretty great opportunity for all of you! We are accepting applications for people between the ages of 15 - 22 that would like really awesome fashion inspired photographs taken. (Guys are welcome too)

All we need from you is to email us your name, age, contact numbers and a snapshot of yourself. Mia and Maren

Here is a shoot I am SO excited to show! I just love looking at these images, they warm my heart! I have photographed Maren since she was a couple days old, and now she is a big sister to Mia! We took these images in their home (one new aspect of Eden Photography) and it was a blast. Shannon and I got to play with Maren and see her little personality emerge. Little Mia just slept through the whole shoot-she is a natural and she does not even know it! :) I was reminded why I love what I do so much as I stepped into their house and saw all of the beautiful images they had displayed from past shoots. I absolutely LOVE to see my images in people’s frames. I could go on about how much I love this family; I will spare everyone though and just let you look at how beautiful they are!

So-the new and improved Eden Photography is now under way. We are working hard to make your experience with Eden Photography unforgettable. Our new client-coordinator and assistant, Shannon, is now on staff with us and is making my life a little more sane and together. :) We so appreciate all of her hard work and hope that one day you will have the privilege of speaking with her.
Another new and exciting event here is we are doing our first LIMITED SESSION in Indiana this coming week! It should be interesting seeing as it is out of state, but if it goes over well you may have the chance to partake in an Asheville Limited Session!

A new wedding photographer affiliated with Eden Photography will be coming soon to Asheville. Well, soon as in a couple of years. :) My dad, Brad Telleen is an amazing photographer! He started his career life as a wedding photographer and then felt called to be a Navy Chaplain. After almost 20 years with the Navy and Marines he has re-found his love of photography, realizing it never left.
My little sister was married on March 3rd and my dad was the father-of-the-bride, officiant, and photographer. (My husband filled in at times) My sister married an awesome man-Adam Bryan who is also a great photographer! We are just the photo family! Keep your eyes out for Brad Telleen-wedding photographer extraordinaire!

RIPE Conference UPDATE

Update time!
There are few words that really sum up this weekend I had at the Bookout RIPE Conference! It has always been my dream to have a children and family photography business that would deliver unique and beautiful images along with loyal customer service. This conference got me all the more fired up about creating a business that will do this because Heather and her AMAZING team had so much advice and inspiration!

My trip started with a long drive, a time to unwind and focus on the fact that I was going to this conference to redirect my path that my business will take. Clearing my head of all of the chaos and tasks I left behind was hard. I wasn't really able to do that until about 3/4 way through the trip when I saw a beautiful sunset and a small rainbow trying to peak through the clouds. This simple sight reminded me that I have made situations in my life more complicated than they really need to be. And, just like the clouds that covered the rainbow, I have let things in my life cloud my goals. I am trying to live a beautiful life and even when the clouds are there, God is still shining strong...its just a matter of if I will take of my sunglasses to rely and gaze on Him. (Pictures Included-they were taken as I was driving so they are not the greatest)

After this moment I seemed to be more redirected and I got very excited about the weekend to come!

Along with 19 other women and man I sat and listened to Heather, Ben, Missy and Amy and tried to soak up every drop of wisdom and ideas that they imparted on us. I have been inspired to keep living my dream, motivated to continuously make Eden Photography better, and stretched to create new goals for Eden.

I hope you will stick by our side as we grow into the business we desire to be. There will be many changes in the next 6 months so please join us on our journey in the excitement of a UNIQUE business that will provide you with quality art work for you to cherish, and for your children's children to cherish!

I will start by apologizing for being totally MIA lately!! I am not exaggerating when I tell you I have been SOO busy! I am very grateful for this time of year when we can come together with family and friends and spend quality time together. It has gone by so fast! I have not posted SEVERAL photo shoots because as the end of December approached I tried to keep up with keeping my clients happy and delivering their pictures in a timely manner...therefor, my Blog got neglected. To all of you who came to me to have your holiday photos taken-THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart. YOU have made this very short first 4 months worth working for; and seeing your happy reactions to your photographs is why I love what I do!

Eden Photography photographed doggie daycare pictures at At Play With Sparky Doggie Daycare on Short McDowell in Asheville,NC. The dogs were fun but very challenging to photograph.
